Gay and lesbian people can form attraction and/or relationships with people of the same gender. While both terms refer to individuals who are attracted to people of the same sex, there is a slight difference in their usage. Email press glaad. For example, a transgender woman who is attracted exclusively to women would typically describe herself a lesbian; if she were exclusively attracted to men, she would likely describe herself a straight woman.

Gay and lesbian are terms used to describe individuals who identify as homosexual. Additional terms and definitions about gender identity and gender expression, transgender people, and nonbinary people are available in the Transgender Glossary.
English also does have gendered grammar, but does have gendered semantics. Some people use the words bisexual and bi to describe the community. Outside of acronyms, these terms should only be capitalized when used at the beginning of a sentence.
